Speakers

Nothing can ruin the sound quality of a good car stereo faster than poor quality loud speakers. Considered one of the most important element in any audio reproduction system, the speakers should be one of the first components you select. By matching your electronics to your speakers, you insure matching power and handling capability, and the maximum fidelity for your dollar.

Choose your speakers based on your car or truck interior, your listening requirements and your musical taste. Mobile One has a wide selection of name brands to fit all vehicles. See your Mobile One sales counselor to help choose the best speakers for your system.
What speakers are right for my car stereo system?

Your choice of speakers depends on the design of your interior and your listening requirements. There are two types of car audio speakers, Standard and Separates.

Standard
There are Four Basic Types of Standard Speakers :

Dual Cone:

A single speaker cone with a smaller speaker glued in the middle. It reproduces all frequency ranges, high,mid-range, and low.

Coaxial Speakers:

Two different speakers mounted in one frame; the smaller speaker reproducing the upper-mid-range and high notes, the larger speaker reproducing the lower mid-range and bass.

Triaxial Speakers :

Several different speakers mounted in one frame. The smallest speaker reproduces the high notes, the middle size speaker-the mid-range notes and the larger speaker- the bass material.

Separates:

Separates are simply standard speakers made in separate frames, hence"separates".

Separates are designed to reproduce a specific range of frequencies and as a result each range is clearer and more defined. Separates offer the most flexibility in terms of placement and power handling. This in turn allows you to create a three dimensional soundstage.

Separates:

There are Four Basic Types of Separates:

Tweeters:

are the smaller part of the speaker set. They are designed to reproduce high frequencies. Tweeters are flexible in terms of placement so you can direct the high frequencies for better imaging and soundstage. Tweeter placement is the most critical component for placement.

Mid Range :

Section of a standard speaker, usually 4" to 6 1/2" in diameter designed to reproduce all of the mid-frequencies in music such as pianos, a singers voice, or violins. They are generally installed in the front door panels or in the rear deck next to the tweeters.

Subwoofers :

Subwoofers : are specifically designed to handle nothing but bass or mid-bass.

Powered Subwoofers:

Powered subs / tubes are perfect for leased cars, because they can take their input signal from the speaker wires. Some powered subs, like the powered Bazookas, are even smart enough to turn themselves on when they sense music on the speaker wire.

What is a crossover and how does it improve the performance of my speakers?

A crossover splits the full range of music frequencies (low bass, mids and highs) into specifec bands. These bands can then be matched to separate speakers designed to handle them. There are two types of crossovers, Passive and Active.

Passive Crossovers :

This crossover performs this task directly at the speaker by allowing only those tones which are appropriate for that speaker to be produced.

 Active Crossovers :

This crossover split out appropriate frequencies to your speakers before the signal reaches the amplifier. This allows the speaker and amplifeir to draw only as much power a the music frequency demands. The result ? Enhanced performance and customized sound for your particular car.

How important is choosing the right speaker enclosure ?

Choosing the correct speaker enclosure for your sub-woofer will help you avoid poor sound quality and even protect you from damaging your sub-woofer! Boxes come in many shapes and designes or can be custom designed to fit your car.

Four basic types of enclosures are :

1. Small sealed boxes
2.

Medium, for sealed or ported applications

3.

Big, for sealed or ported applications

4. Super-efficient bandpass boxes.
